Synopsis: Purdah, an adaptation of Mahesh Dattani's 'Where Did I Leave My Purdah' is based on the themes of love, loss and the politics of identity, woven into narratives of the 1947 partition. The play spans during space and time, telling the story of Nazia, an ageing actress who came to fame by playing the role of Shakuntala in an adaptation of the epic of 'Abhigyanam Shakuntalam' during her early years. Nazia, who is now in her sixties is being given de-glam granny role in Bollywood. With a terrorising past and a difficult present, she is nostalgic for and desperately eager to resurrect the glorious days of theatre, unable to accept her diminishing stardom and the horrors of her past.
